As a small team of deep tech investors, WestWave Capital came to me with a list of portfolio companies and the need to present themselves as a formidable firm to potential portfolio companies and limited partners. I strategized how they could set themselves apart.

Strategy

I talked in depth with Rohan to strategize the site’s content. While a lot of small VC firms try to inflate their image, I decided to lean into their strengths as a small, hands-on team of former entrepreneurs. My goal was to make them seem like the type of approachable yet potent investors that startup founders want and need in their early stages.

Taking a strategic approach was invaluable. Most of our early discussions centered around exactly who the audience was (early stage startup founders and limited partners), which informed all of the language on the site.

In the end, Rohan and the rest of the team was extremely happy with the result. They still use my tagline: “Deep tech takes deep partnerships.”

Brand

I kept the symbol from their previous designer, and modernized the typography using Avenir, the same typeface used in the body of the website. The result is an elegant, unpretentious logo that communicates efficiency, lightness, and warmth.

I also did other work for WestWave, including a slide deck and one-pager (below).

Process and Learnings

WestWave was my first client that came from an indirect connection. It was a pleasure learning with Rohan and a great first step into tech.
